The Adopt Your Hometown School Campaign was launched in 1998 in San Francisco CA. USA in response to the clamor of Filipino organizations and individuals in the US that were interested in making their hometowns as a beneficiary of fundraising activities. The campaign encourages Filipinos to “adopt” public schools by providing them educational television (ETV) packages to make educational shows ( Sineskwela, Math Tinik , Hirayamarawari, Bayani and Epol/Apple) accessible in their schools . Today, donors from different parts of the world have supported the campaign and adopted close to 500 schools in the various regions of the Philippines.
WHY ADOPT A SCHOOL?
Today, more than 8,000 public schools in the Philippines enjoy the benefits of television-assisted instruction through educational television, more than 30,000 still don’t. Schools rely heavily on public support in acquiring the necessary infrastructure which they use as supplementary audio visual reference in classroom discussions.
WHAT IT MEANS TO ADOPT YOUR HOMETOWN SCHOOL
An adoption of a hometown school goes beyond providing sincere expression of being one with the community, one was once part of. It is a concern for children who will grow up and be someday, the hometown’s source of pride. It is a way of giving back to the community that played an important role in making who you are today.
It is a homecoming – a time to reunite with friends, classmates, neighbors, teachers, family and yes, a time to be home.
LEAVE A LEGACY WHERE IT MEANS THE MOST, HOME.
CHILDREN EXPOSED TO ETV (EDUCATIONAL TELEVISION) PROGRAMS SHOW INCREASE IN THECOMPREHENSION AND RETENTION OF LESSONS AS MUCH AS 25%*

When you adopt your hometown school in the Philippines, it will be equipped with 31 double-disc volumes of educational television programs on video, a TV and a DVD player. The video features lessons in Science (Sine’skwela), Mathematics (Mathtinik), English (Epol/Apple), Philippine History (Bayani) and Values Education (Hirayamanawari) plus a teacher training video and episode guide CD that will help teachers implement television-assisted instruction better.
By adopting your hometown school, you help improve the quality of education of your chosen community. Studies show that students exposed to educational programs show better comprehension and retention of lessons, heightened interest and enthusiasm in studying and improvement in daily class attendance. As a result, students get higher grades and exhibit better overall performance in school. When the academic performance of children in the community is enhanced, the community in general benefits.
